In 1789 Masayoshi drew ten pictures of mostly foreign birds for inclusion in a woodblock-printed picture book entitled Raikin Zui (i.e., Pictures of Imported Birds). The birds were accompanied by flowers in most pictures and the latter were drawn and colored accurately. Surprisingly, some bird shapes were drawn less accurately perhaps because Masayoshi was less familiar with the foreign birds he drew or because he was faithfully copying their shapes as drawn originally by an unnamed Chinese artist.
